USAWOA Member receives the Distinguished Service Cross

On July 11 2008, Chief Warrant Officer 5 David F. Cooper was awarded the DSC for extraordinary heroism when he selflessly chose to fly as a single attack helicopter at low levels over an active firefight to draw enemy fire away from United States Special Operations ground forces on the scene. He acted with complete disregard for his own safety as he single handedly took aerial action against an armed and numerically superior enemy during a combat engagement in central Iraq in 2006. The DSC is the Army's second highest award for combat valor and is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States during military operations. This is the eleventh DSC to be awarded for actions in Iraq since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  To date, Cooper is the only aviator to receive the DSC non-posthumously for actions in support of the War on Terror.

Four USAWOA Members Recognized at AGC 233rd Birthday Ball

On June 6, 2008, The National Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Ball was held at the NCO Club on Fort Jackson, SC. Over 500 Soldiers and civilians came together to celebrate the birthday. The AG Corps is the second oldest branch of our Army. The history of the AG Warrant Officer has a proud heritage and continues to be a force multiplier during this critical time in history. The Corps is strong today because of the men and women serving in a myriad of positions accepting every challenge without wavering from their responsibilities for no other reason than to take care of the Soldiers and Families they are entrusted to support. Several AG soldiers and civilians were recognized for their contributions to the AG Corps:

Pictured top left is CW3 Melissa Farmer who received the "Timothy J. Maude Medal for Distinguished Achievement" as the 2008 Regimental Warrant Officer of the Year. Melissa is  being congratulated by Mrs. Timothy Maude.  Melissa is currently assigned to the Soldier Support Center at Fort Jackson. CW3 Farmer has been a member of USAWOA since 2002 and is currently the Treasurer of the USAWOA Swampfox Chapter at Jackson. Mrs. Maude is the wife of the late Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude who while serving as the Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel was killed in the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The purpose of the "Timothy J. Maude" award is to give special recognition to an Officer and Warrant Officer who best understand LTG Maude's contributions and values in his dealings with Soldiers, Commanders, Families, and the Army during the previous calendar year.

Pictured top center are Mrs. Patricia A. Upton who received "John J. Dinnien Medal For Achievement and Service" as the 2008 Regimental Civilian of the year. The presentation was made by COL Richard P. Mustion, the Commandant of the AG School and President of the AGC Regiment. Patricia is a civilian employee at the 81st Regional Readiness Command in Birmingham, Alabama where she is also assigned as a USAR CW5 drilling reservist. CW5 Upton have been a member of USAWOA since 1999 and is currently the Vice President of the USAWOA Vulcan CHapter in Birmingham. The "John J. Dinnien Award" was created to recognize the contributions of Army civilians in military personnel management. The award is named in honor of Mr. John J. Dinnien, who epitomized the best qualities of a professional human resource manager, and always placed service to the soldier above all else.

Pictured top right are (l-r): CW5 (Ret) Daniel J. Logan, incoming "Honorary Warrant Officer of the Regiment"; COL Richard P. Mustion, the Commandant of the AG School and President of the AGC Regiment; and CW5 (Ret) Arbie 'Mac' McInnis, outgoing Honorary Warrant Officer of the Regiment. CW5 Logan's last assignment on active duty was as Assistant Executive Officer and Warrant Officer Advisor to the Army Chief of Staff. He is currently the Chief of the Secretary of the Army's Military Personnel Office and has been an active member of USAWOA since 1996. CW5 McInnis has been the Honorary Warrant Officer of the Regiment for nine active and dedicated years of service. He has been a member of USAWOA since 1986 and is currently the President of the USAWOA Florida Sunshine Chapter.
