MINUTES OF MOST RECENT MEETING

 

LORD FAIRFAX “SILVER” CHAPTER

United States Army Warrant Officers Association

16 September 2010

 

Call to Order:   President CW2 Atkinson presided over the meeting and called the meeting to order at 17:05 hours on 16 September 2010.  A quorum was confirmed as being present or represented by proxy.

 

President:  CW2 Meisha Atkinson  

Vice-President:  CW5(R) Eddie Mallard

Secretary:  CW3 Elgin Funches

Treasurer:  CW5 (R) Richard “Dick” Markle

Ways and Means CW5 (R) Ron McLendon

 

The Pledge of Allegiance:  Said by all

 

A Moment of Silence:  For our fallen comrades.  

 

Secretary’s Report: The Secretary’s Report for August 2010 was not available.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

The Treasurer’s Report dated 15 September 2010 was read.  It was moved by CW5(R) Mallard and seconded by CW5 Johnson that the Treasurer’s Report be accepted and passed on to record subject to audit, motion carried.

 

President’s Report:  CW2 Atkinson announced that ballots and proxies for this year’s National Elections were being mailed out so be on the lookout for them.  She stressed the need for participation and submission of the ballots.  Those who choose to email the ballots or proxies in must print them off, sign them and scan them back in prior to sending.  All ballots and proxies must be signed.  The window to submit the ballots and proxies is now open.   Also thanks to CW3 Elgin Funches who just returned from Iraq and volunteered to take over the chapter Secretary duties. 

 

Vice President’s Report:  None.

 

Committee Reports:

 

Adopt-a-Highway:

The Project coordinator, Dick Markle, submitted the paperwork to the VDOT to extend the chapter’s commitment to the Adopt- a-Highway Program for an additional 2 years.   The next highway cleanup is tentatively scheduled for 18 September 2010, weather permitting.  We will meet at the Mosby Reserve Center at 0800 hours for a safety briefing.   Also thanks to CW5 (R) Eddie Mallard who also participated in the last cleanup in May.

 

Ways and Means: 

The Chapter Car Wash is scheduled for Saturday, 25 Sep 2010, at the Kingstowne Sunoco station from 9am to 2pm.   So far only 4 people have signed up to volunteer.  We welcome any donations from those who wish to donate or cannot make the event.

 

Memorabilia Committee:

CW5 (R) Markle provided a 15 September 2010 update to the memorabilia inventory.   No changes noted.

 

Unfinished Business: 

 

CW3 Elgin Funches is announced as the new LFSC Secretary. 

 

New Business: 

 

CW5 (R) Dick Markle made a motion to set aside $100 each for the Fort Belvoir and Fort Myer Chaplain Funds for this years Thanksgiving Basket Donations.  Motioned was seconded by CW5(R) Eddie Mallard and approved by those present. 

 

Charity:  CW5 (R) Dick Markle proposed that we consider charitable donations to the Fort Belvoir and Fort Myer Adopt-a-Family programs and other charitable contributions to the various organizations in our area.  MTF.

 

USAWOA: 

 

Membership, Recruiting and Retention:  The Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter currently has 254 members (178 affiliated and 76 non-affiliated).    We welcome three new WO1’s to the chapter.  Welcome letters will go out this week from the President.

 

Announcements:

 

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, 21 October 2010, at 1700 hours in the Kingstowne Library Conference Room, located at the corner of Telegraph Road and Beulah Street, Alexandria, VA.

A motion was made to adjourn by CW5(R) Markle and seconded by CW5(R) Eddie Mallard.  Meeting adjourned at 17:35 hours.
