Veterans Get Boost as Obama Signs Tax Credits Into Law - On Nov. 21, 2011 President Barack Obama delivered a clear message today when he signed two new tax credits into law to increase the hiring of military veterans and wounded warriors. “For businesses out there, if you are hiring, hire a veteran,” he said. “It's the right thing to do for you, it's the right thing to do for them, and it's the right thing to do for our economy.” In August, Obama called on Congress to enact tax credits, included in the American Jobs Act, that will help to get unemployed veterans back to work - see more. 12/24/11

Veterans, Service members and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1 or chat online at http://www.veteranscrisisline.net/ to receive support from caring, qualified Department of Veterans Affairs responders - many are Veterans themselves – who are specially trained and experienced in helping Veterans of all ages and circumstances through any emotional or personal crisis.

 

Homelessness Grants Target Iraq, Afghanistan Veterans - The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced nearly $60 million in grants aimed at preventing homelessness among veterans and their families, with particular focus on veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. VA Secretary Eric K. Shinseki announced the awards, the first to be presented through VA's new Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. The grants will go to 85 nonprofit organizations in 40 states and the District of Colombia to serve an estimated 22,000 homeless and at-risk veterans and their families  - see more.
