USAWOA 2001 Family Member Scholarships 


Eleven USAWOA family members were selected to receive scholarships under the USAWOA Family Member Scholarship Program for the school year 2001-2002. Thirty-Three family members competed for scholarships. After careful consideration the Scholarship Committee selected the following outstanding applicants to receive $1,000 scholarships under this USAWOA program. We also want to thank John & Jeanne Allnatt, CW3s Linda & Myles Clayburn, the Pentagon Federal Credit Union, the St. Louis Gateway Chapter, and all the USAWOA members who support the fund raising which makes these scholarships possible.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

 

Crystal B. Helton awarded the John and Jean Allnatt USAWOA Scholarship. She is the daughter of CW4 Donald Helton, from Fayetteville, NC. Crystal will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, majoring in Pre-Med/Biology.

Nathan J. Hodson is the son of CW4 Paul Hodson, a member of the Crater, Fort Lee, VA. Nathan will attend Duke University majoring in Physics.

Amanda E. Hrubik awarded the Pentagon Federal Credit Union USAWOA Scholarship. She is the daughter of CW5 (Ret) John Hrubik, a Life Member from the Arizona Silver Chapter, Fort Huachuca, AZ. Amanda will continue her studies at Bryn Mawr College, majoring in Russian & Political Science.

Stephanie E. McLaughlin is the daughter of CW3 (Ret) Brian McLaughlin, from Farmington, MN. Stephanie will attend the University of Wisconsin at Great Falls majoring in Elementary Education.

Erin T. Shirley awarded the Carrie Clayburn Memorial USAWOA Scholarship. The proud father is CW5 Jerry Shirley who is stationed in Korea. Erin will attend Rollins College and majoring in Engineering.

Eric J. Olson is the son of CW3 Timothy Olson from Rock Island, IL. Eric is presently attending the University of Wisconsin at Madison and majoring in Political Science and International Relations..

BreAnn J. VanGilder is the daughter of CW2 Wade VanGilder from Helena, MT. BreAnn will attend Montana State University for a degree in Nursing.

Starla L. Armstrong is the daughter of CW2 (Ret) Joe Armstrong, a member of the Frankenstein-Odenwald Chapter in Darmstadt, Germany. Starla will attend Ohio Wesleyan College majoring in Marine Biology/Zoology.

David A. Garrison awarded the St. Louis Gateway Chapter USAWOA Scholarship. He is the son of CW5 Robert Garrison from the Crater, Fort Lee, VA. David will attend James Madison University majoring in Computer Science.

Joshua Gibson is the son of CW3 Edson Gibson, a member of the Arlington Hall Minuteman Chapter, Arlington, VA. Joshua will attend Liberty University for a degree in Youth Ministries and Missions.

Corbin T. Schey is the son of CW5 John Schey, the Mid-North Region Director and a member of the St. Louis Gateway Chapter, St. Louis, MO. Corbin will attend University of Illinois and dual majoring in Political Science and Computer Science.

The Scholarship Committee consisted of CW5 Jim Morgan, CW4 Bobby Cox, CW4 Mary Wells, CW3(P) Dan Cooper and CW3 Rial Coleman. The committee carefully considered each application and prepared an Order of Merit List using procedures similar to those of an Army Selection Board.


 

 In the Fall of 2003 the USAWOA Scholarship Foundation assumed responsibility for USAWOA Scholarships.
